Hamites
Hamites é um gênero de amonite heteromórfica que evoluiu no final do estágio aptiano do Cretáceo adiantado e durou no estágio cenomaniano do Cretáceo tardio. O gênero é quase certamente parafilético, mas continua a ser amplamente utilizado como uma "captura de todos" para as amonites heteromorfos da superfamília Turrilitaceae que não se encaixam perfeitamente nos grupos mais derivados. Na tentativa de identificar clados dentro do gênero, foi dividido em uma série de novos gêneros ou subgêneros por diferentes paleontólogos, incluindo Eohamites, Hamitella, Helicohamitas, Lytohamitas, Planohamitas, Psilohamitas e Sziveshamitas. A espécie tipo é Hamites attenuatus do início da Albian, nomeado por James Sowerby em sua Conologia Mineral de Grã-Bretanha de 1814, embora o próprio gênero tenha sido criado por James Parkinson em seu livro 1811, Organic Remains of the Former World. Este James Parkinson é mais conhecido como a primeira descrição científica de uma doença que ele chamou de Shaking Palsy, agora referida como doença de Parkinson em sua homenagem.
