Spiraea tomentosa, comumente conhecida como steeplebush, meadowweet ou hardhack, é uma planta semelhante em características a S. douglasii. Spiraea tomentosa cresce até quatro metros de altura, e prefere solo úmido a úmido e sol completo. Ela floresce no verão. As flores de Steeplebush individuais têm cerca de 1/16 de polegada de largura e estão dispostas em aglomerados estreitos em forma de pirâmide que podem ter até oito centímetros de comprimento. Borboletas e outros insetos alimentadores de néctar acham as flores muito atraentes. As flores são seguidas por frutas pequenas, secas e castanhas. Tem um tomentum denso e branco que cobre seu caule e a parte inferior das folhas. Sabe-se por suas propriedades adstringentes, que fazem com que seja usado medicinalmente. A zona de resistência para esta planta está listada como zonas 4 a 8. Ela é encontrada nativamente no leste dos Estados Unidos e no Canadá.
