Homeostase
A homeostase, também homelostática ou homoostasia, é propriedade de um sistema no qual as variáveis são reguladas para que as condições internas permaneçam estáveis e relativamente constantes. Exemplos de homeostase incluem a regulação da temperatura e o equilíbrio entre acidez e alcalinidade. É um processo que mantém a estabilidade do ambiente interno do corpo humano em resposta a mudanças nas condições externas. O conceito foi descrito por Claude Bernard em 1865 e a palavra foi cunhada por Walter Bradford Cannon em 1926, 1929 e 1932. Embora o termo tenha sido originalmente usado para se referir a processos dentro de organismos vivos, é freqüentemente aplicado a sistemas de controle automático como termostatos . A homeostase requer um sensor para detectar mudanças na condição a ser regulada, um mecanismo efetor que pode variar essa condição; e uma conexão de feedback negativo entre os dois.
