A Inland Revenue foi, até abril de 2005, um departamento do governo britânico responsável pela cobrança de tributos diretos, incluindo imposto de renda, contribuições de seguros nacionais, imposto sobre ganhos de capital, imposto sobre herança, imposto sobre sociedades, imposto sobre receitas petrolíferas e imposto de selo. Mais recentemente, a Inland Revenue também administrou os regimes de Créditos Tributários, pelo qual os fundos, como Crédito Tributário de Trabalho e Crédito Tributário para Crianças, são pagos pelo Governo na conta bancária de um destinatário ou como parte de seus salários. A Inland Revenue também foi responsável pelo pagamento de benefícios para crianças. A Inland Revenue foi fundida com a HM Customs and Excise para formar a HM Revenue and Customs que entrou em vigor em 18 de abril de 2005. A antiga Receita do Interior tornou-se parte da HM Revenue and Customs. Coloquialmente, especialmente entre aqueles que não estão no suporte de contribuições mais jovens, "Receita e Alfândega" ainda não substituiu amplamente o nome anterior. Uma inclusão inexorável no uso correto foi assegurada na expressão 'de Receita e Alfândega' em uma série de rádio anual de alto perfil e, em menor grau, em transmissões de informações públicas de televisão nos anos 2000 e 2010.
