Ionizacao
A ionização é o processo pelo qual um átomo ou uma molécula adquire uma carga negativa ou positiva ao ganhar ou perder elétrons. A ionização resulta da interação de um átomo ou uma molécula com uma partícula subatômica ou ondas eletromagnéticas na extremidade do comprimento de onda curto do espectro eletromagnético que possuem energia cinética suficiente para causar ionização. A ionização pode ocorrer na ausência de uma influência externa pelo processo interno de conversão, através do qual um núcleo excitado transfere sua energia para um dos elétrons de casca interna e o expulsa com alta energia cinética. O processo de ionização é de particular interesse na ciência fundamental. Também é encontrado em muitos campos de interesse prático, que vão desde espectroscopia de massa até radioterapia para eliminar células cancerosas. Obviamente, todos os aspectos do processo de ionização não podem ser abordados em um único artigo enciclopédico. Aqui, a ionização é descrita invocando o caso simples de um átomo no campo a laser forte. O caso é passível de tratamento analítico e representa as principais características do processo.
