Jitter
Jitter é o desvio indesejado da periodicidade verdadeira de um sinal periódico assumido em eletrônica e telecomunicações, muitas vezes em relação a uma fonte de relógio de referência. O jitter pode ser observado em características como a freqüência de pulsos sucessivos, a amplitude do sinal ou a fase dos sinais periódicos. Jitter é um fator significativo, e geralmente indesejado, no design de quase todos os links de comunicação. Nas aplicações de recuperação de relógio, ele é chamado de jitter temporizador. O jitter pode ser quantificado nos mesmos termos que todos os sinais que variam no tempo, por exemplo, RMS ou deslocamento de pico a pico. Também como outros sinais que variam o tempo, o jitter pode ser expresso em termos de densidade espectral. O período de jitter é o intervalo entre duas vezes do efeito máximo de uma característica de sinal que varia regularmente com o tempo. A freqüência de jitter, a figura mais comum, é inversa. O ITU-T G.810 classifica as freqüências de jitter abaixo de 10 Hz como vaga e freqüências igual ou superior a 10 Hz como jitter. O jitter pode ser causado por interferência eletromagnética e crosstalk com portadores de outros sinais.
