Landrace
Um landrace é uma variedade local de uma espécie domesticada de animais ou plantas que se desenvolveu ao longo do tempo, por adaptação ao ambiente natural e cultural em que vive. Os espécimes de um landrace geralmente são mais geneticamente e fenotípicamente diversos do que os membros de uma raça formal. Muitas dessas raças originam-se de tentativas de tornar as variedades locais mais consistentes através da criação seletiva e, às vezes, um tipo particular tem tanto a população de raça autônoma quanto a da raça formal. Conquistantemente, às vezes o nome de uma raça formalizada baseada em um landrace retém a palavra "landrace" nela, apesar de a raça não ser mais uma verdadeira atração local, ou pode ter o mesmo nome que o landrace do qual foi derivado. Quando um animal landrace é formalizado como uma raça pedigree sem criação seletiva significativa para alterá-lo, mas sim para bloquear o que se pensa como seus traços definidores, muitas vezes é referido como uma raça natural ou raça tradicional por organizações criadoras e mais sofisticadas.
