Linsangs é um nome originalmente javanês aplicado a quatro espécies de mamíferos carnívoros que vivem em árvores. As duas espécies africanas pertencem à família Viverridae, as duas espécies asiáticas pertencem à família Prionodontidae. Ambos os gêneros linsang foram anteriormente colocados na subfamília Viverrinae, juntamente com vários outros gêneros, mas pesquisas recentes sugerem que suas relações reais podem ser um pouco diferentes. Os linsangs são notáveis por sua semelhança morfológica com gatos, família Felidae, que é maior do que nos outros viverrids.
