Magnetização
No eletromagnetismo clássico, magnetização ou polarização magnética é o campo vetorial que expressa a densidade de momentos de dipolo magnéticos permanentes ou induzidos em um material magnético. A origem dos momentos magnéticos responsáveis pela magnetização podem ser correntes elétricas microscópicas resultantes do movimento de elétrons em átomos, ou a rotação dos elétrons ou dos núcleos. A magnetização líquida resulta da resposta de um material a um campo magnético externo, juntamente com quaisquer momentos de dipolo magnéticos desequilibrados que possam ser inerentes ao próprio material; por exemplo, em ferromagnetos. A magnetização nem sempre é homogênea dentro de um corpo, mas varia de diferentes pontos. A magnetização também descreve como um material responde a um campo magnético aplicado, bem como a forma como o material muda o campo magnético e pode ser usado para calcular as forças que resultam dessas interações. Pode ser comparado à polarização elétrica, que é a medida da resposta correspondente de um material a um campo elétrico em eletrostática. Físicos e engenheiros definem a magnetização como a quantidade de momento magnético por unidade de volume.
