Mimetismo
Na biologia evolutiva, o mimetismo é uma semelhança de uma espécie para outra que protege uma ou ambas. Esta semelhança pode ser na aparência, comportamento, som, perfume ou localização. Os mímicos são encontrados nas mesmas áreas que os modelos. A mimetismo ocorre quando um grupo de organismos, os imitadores, evoluem para compartilhar características comuns percebidas com outro grupo, os modelos. A evolução é conduzida pela ação seletiva de um sinal-receptor ou dupe. As aves, por exemplo, usam a visão para identificar insetos palatáveis, evitando os modelos nocivos. O modelo geralmente é outra espécie, exceto em casos de automética. O receptor de sinal é tipicamente outro organismo intermediário como o predador comum de duas espécies, mas pode ser o próprio modelo, como uma traça que se assemelha ao seu predador de aranha. Como uma interação, o mimetismo é, na maioria dos casos, vantajoso para o imitador e prejudicial para o receptor, mas pode aumentar, reduzir ou não afetar a aptidão do modelo, dependendo da situação.
