Interpretação de linguagem, ou interpretação, é facilitar a comunicação oral ou de linguagem gestual, simultaneamente ou consecutivamente, entre usuários de diferentes idiomas. Estudos de tradução são o estudo sistemático da teoria, descrição e aplicação da interpretação e tradução da linguagem. Um intérprete é uma pessoa que converte um pensamento ou expressão em um idioma de origem em uma expressão com um significado comparável em uma linguagem de destino simultaneamente em "tempo real" ou consecutivamente após uma festa ter terminado de falar. A função do intérprete é transmitir todos os elementos semânticos e todas as intenções e sentimentos da mensagem que o falante do idioma de origem está dirigindo aos destinatários do idioma-alvo.
