O ângulo de posição, geralmente AB abreviado, é uma medida derivada da observação de estrelas binárias visuais. É definido como o deslocamento angular em graus da estrela secundária para o primário, em relação ao pólo celeste norte. Como o exemplo ilustra, se alguém estivesse observando uma estrela binária hipotética com PA de 135 graus, isso significa que uma linha imaginária na ocular tirada do pólo celeste norte para o primário seria deslocada do secundário, de modo que o ângulo NCP-PS seria de 135 graus.
