Código postal
Um código postal é uma série de letras e / ou dígitos anexados a um endereço postal com a finalidade de classificar o correio. Uma vez introduzidos os códigos postais, outras aplicações tornaram-se possíveis. Em fevereiro de 2005, 117 dos 190 países membros da União Postal Universal tinham sistemas de códigos postais. Os países que não possuem sistemas nacionais incluem a Irlanda e o Gana. Embora os códigos postais sejam normalmente atribuídos a áreas geográficas, os códigos especiais às vezes são atribuídos a endereços individuais ou a instituições que recebem grandes volumes de correio, como agências governamentais e grandes empresas comerciais. Um exemplo é o sistema francês CEDEX.
