O pragmatismo é uma tradição filosófica que começou nos Estados Unidos por volta de 1870. O pragmatismo é uma rejeição da idéia de que a função do pensamento é descrever, representar ou espelhar a realidade. Em vez disso, os pragmatistas desenvolvem sua filosofia em torno da idéia de que a função do pensamento é como um instrumento ou ferramenta para a predição, ação e resolução de problemas.
