Probabilidade
A probabilidade é uma medida da probabilidade de que um evento aconteça. A probabilidade é usada para quantificar uma atitude de mente em relação a alguma proposição de cuja verdade não estamos certos. A proposição de interesse geralmente é da forma "Será que ocorrerá um evento específico?" A atitude mental é da forma "Quão certo somos que o evento ocorrerá?" A certeza que adotamos pode ser descrita em termos de uma medida numérica e esse número, entre 0 e 1, chamamos probabilidade. Assim, quanto maior a probabilidade de um evento, mais certo é que o evento ocorrerá. Um exemplo simples seria o lançamento de uma moeda justa. Uma vez que os 2 resultados são considerados equiprobáveis, a probabilidade de "cabeças" é igual à probabilidade de "caudas" e cada probabilidade é 1/2 ou equivalentemente uma chance de 50% de "cabeças" ou "caudas". Esses conceitos receberam uma formalização matemática axiomática na teoria da probabilidade, que é amplamente utilizada em áreas de estudo como matemática, estatística, finanças, jogos de azar, ciência, inteligência artificial / máquina aprendizagem, ciência da computação e filosofia para, por exemplo, desenhar inferências sobre a freqüência esperada de eventos.
