Na física, as quase-partículas e as excitações coletivas são fenômenos emergentes que ocorrem quando um sistema microscopicamente complicado, como um sólido, se comporta como se contivesse diferentes partículas fracamente interativas no espaço livre. Por exemplo, à medida que um elétron viaja através de um semicondutor, seu movimento é perturbado de forma complexa por suas interações com todos os outros elétrons e núcleos; No entanto, ele se comporta como um elétron com uma massa diferente viajando sem perturbar o espaço livre.
