A dispersão Raman ou o efeito Raman / rɑːmən / é a dispersão inelástica de um fóton. Foi descoberto por C. V. Raman e K. S. Krishnan em líquidos, e por G. Landsberg e L. I. Mandelstam em cristais. O efeito foi previsto teoricamente por Adolf Smekal em 1923. Quando os fótons são dispersos a partir de um átomo ou molécula, a maioria dos fótons é espalhada elasticamente, de modo que os fótons espalhados têm a mesma energia que os fótons incidentes. Uma pequena fração dos fótons espalhados é espalhada por uma excitação, com os fotões dispersos com uma freqüência diferente e geralmente menor que a dos fótons incidentes.
