Raphe tem vários significados diferentes em ciência. Em botânica e planktologia é comumente usado quando se descreve uma costura ou cume em diatomáceas ou sementes. Na anatomia animal, é usado para descrever uma união ridged de tecido biológico contínuo. A fusão incompleta da raça palatina resulta em um defeito congênito conhecido como fenda palatina. ▪ O rafe faríngeo se junta aos constrictores faríngeos esquerdo e direito.
