Krameria
Krameria é o único gênero da família Krameriaceae, das quais qualquer das aproximadamente 17 espécies são comumente conhecidas como Rhatany, Ratany ou Rattany. Rhatany é também o nome dado à raiz krameria, um remédio botânico consistindo da raiz seca do para rhatany ou do rhatany peruano. A ação biológica do rhatany é causada pelo ácido de rhataniatânico adstringente, que é semelhante ao ácido tânico. As infusões têm sido usadas como um gargarejo, uma pastilha, especialmente quando misturado com cocaína, como um hemostático local e remédio para a diarréia. Quando finamente em pó, as raízes secas forneceram um componente freqüente de pós dentários. As raízes em pó também serviram, especialmente em Portugal, para colorir vinhos rubi vermelhos. A casca da raiz contém uma substância vermelha livre quase insolúvel chamada vermelho de ratanhia. Krameria é encontrado nas Américas, com a maioria das regiões nativas das regiões tropicais. São arbustos perenes que atuam como parasitas radiculares em outras plantas. As flores têm glândulas chamadas elaiophores que produzem um lípido que é coletado por abelhas do gênero Centris enquanto polinizam as flores.
