O escoteiro é um movimento que visa apoiar os jovens no seu desenvolvimento físico, mental e espiritual, para que eles possam desempenhar papéis construtivos na sociedade, com um forte foco no ar e habilidades de sobrevivência. Durante a primeira metade do século 20, o movimento cresceu para abranger três grandes grupos etários para meninos e, em 1910, foi criada uma nova organização, guias guias, para meninas. É uma das várias organizações juvenis mundiais. Em 1906 e 1907, Robert Baden-Powell, um tenente-geral do exército britânico escreveu um livro para meninos sobre reconhecimento e escoteamento. Baden-Powell escreveu Scouting for Boys, com base em seus primeiros livros sobre o escoteamento militar, com influência e apoio de Frederick Russell Burnham, Ernest Thompson Seton dos Woodcraft Indians, William Alexander Smith da Boys 'Brigade e sua editora Pearson. No verão de 1907, Baden-Powell realizou um acampamento na ilha de Brownsea, na Inglaterra, para testar idéias para seu livro.
