Skittish é um álbum de Mike Doughty gravado com o produtor de rock indie Kramer em um dia, 5 de julho de 1996, e mesclado em 6 de julho. Frustrado pelas sessões acrenças para Irresistible Bliss da Soul Coughing e atraiu o som mínimo de reverberação da Kramer, Doughty tomou um lote de músicas - algumas rejeitadas, algumas rejeitadas de Soul Toughing - e atravessaram o rio para bater o disco no estúdio de Kramer, Noise New Jersey, um quarto gigantesco e tapete de xagro construído como uma adição a uma casa por um would- ser músico da Disco na década de 70, para o qual Kramer adicionou grandes placas de eco correndo pelos dois lados da sua garagem - a fonte de seu som assombração.
