O desempenho específico é uma ordem de um tribunal que exige que uma parte realize um ato específico, geralmente o que está indicado em um contrato. É uma alternativa para a concessão de danos e é classificada como um remédio equitativo comumente usado sob a forma de medidas cautelares relativas a informações confidenciais ou bens imóveis. Embora o desempenho específico possa ser na forma de qualquer tipo de ação forçada, geralmente é usado para completar uma transação previamente estabelecida, sendo assim o remédio mais efetivo para proteger a expectativa de interesse da parte inocente em um contrato. Geralmente, é o oposto de uma injunção proibitiva, mas existem injunções obrigatórias que têm um efeito semelhante ao desempenho específico. De acordo com o direito comum, o desempenho específico não era um remédio, sendo os direitos de um litigante limitado à cobrança de danos. No entanto, o tribunal de equidade desenvolveu o remédio de desempenho específico, pois os danos geralmente não podiam compensar adequadamente alguém pela incapacidade de possuir um determinado imóvel, sendo a terra considerada única.
