Iris foetidissima, é uma espécie de Iris encontrada em bosques abertos, hedgebanks e penhascos do mar. A sua gama natural é a Europa Ocidental, incluindo a Inglaterra ao sul de Durham e também a Irlanda, e da França ao sul e a leste ao norte da África, Itália e Grécia. Sementes de íris apimentadas É uma das duas espécies de íris nativas da Grã-Bretanha, sendo a outra a íris amarela. Suas flores são geralmente de uma cor maçante, de cor azul-chumbo, ou amareladas de amarelo claro, tingidas de azul; as cápsulas, que permanecem ligadas à planta durante o inverno, têm 5-8 cm de comprimento; e as sementes escarlates. É conhecida como "fedorenta" porque algumas pessoas acham o cheiro de suas folhas desagradável quando esmagado ou machucado, um odor que foi descrito como "carnudo". Esta planta é cultivada em jardins nas zonas temperadas. Tanto as espécies quanto a cultivar 'Variegata' ganharam o Prêmio de mérito do jardim Royal Horticultural Society.
