Hemangioma
Um hemangioma é um tumor benigno e geralmente auto-involutante das células endoteliais que alinham os vasos sanguíneos e é caracterizado pelo aumento do número de vasos normais ou anormais preenchidos com sangue. Geralmente, aparece nas primeiras semanas de vida e cresce mais rapidamente durante os primeiros seis meses. Geralmente, o crescimento está completo e a involução começou em doze meses. Metade de todos os hemangiomas infantis completaram a involução aos cinco anos, 70% aos sete anos e a maioria dos restantes aos doze anos. Em casos mais graves, os hemangiomas podem deixar o dano tecidual residual. Na infância, é o tumor mais comum. A palavra "hemangioma" vem do hema grego, "sangue"; angeio, "navio"; -oma, "tumor".
