Na genética, uma cruz de teste, introduzida pela primeira vez por Gregor Mendel, envolve a criação de um indivíduo individual dominante com um indivíduo recessivo, a fim de determinar a zigoto do primeiro ao analisar proporções de prole com o fenótipo recessivo. O genótipo que uma prole tem para cada um de seus genes é determinado pelo alelo herdado de seus pais. A combinação de alelos é o resultado dos cromossomos maternos e paternos contribuídos de cada gamete na adubação dessa prole. Durante a meiose em gametas, os cromossomos homólogos experimentam recombinação genética e segregam-se aleatoriamente em células filhas haploides, cada uma com uma combinação única de genes codificados maternalmente e paternal. As cruzes de teste envolvem a criação do indivíduo em questão com outro indivíduo que expressa uma versão recessiva da mesma característica. Se toda prole exibir o fenótipo dominante, o indivíduo em questão é dominante homozigoto; se a prole exibir fenódios dominantes e recessivos, então o indivíduo é heterocigoto.
