Thane é uma cidade em Maharashtra, na Índia, à frente do Thane Creek. O nome vem de uma anglicização de Shri Sthanak, seu nome anterior baseado em um templo de Ganesha. Thane também conhecido como "a cidade dos lagos" é a sede administrativa do distrito de Thane. Em 16 de abril de 1854, o G.I.P. O primeiro trem ferroviário que já correu na Índia saiu de "Boree Bunder" para "Thane", a 34 quilômetros de distância. Isso marcou o início da Era Ferroviária na Ásia.
