Trabzon é uma cidade na costa do Mar Negro do nordeste da Turquia e a capital da província de Trabzon. A Trabzon, localizada na histórica Estrada da Seda, tornou-se um caldeirão de religiões, línguas e cultura durante séculos e uma porta comercial para o Irã no sudeste e no Cáucaso, a nordeste. Os comerciantes venezianos e genoveses visitaram Trebizond durante o período medieval e venderam seda, linho e tecido de lã; com a República de Génova tendo uma importante colônia mercante dentro da cidade chamada Leonkastron que era semelhante a Galata, perto de Constantinopla, na atual Istambul. Trabzon formou a base de vários estados em sua longa história e foi a capital do Império de Trebizond entre 1204 e 1461. Durante o período otomano, a Trabzon, por causa da importância do seu porto, tornou-se um ponto focal do comércio para o Irã e o Cáucaso. A população do centro urbano é 1.254.350.
