O Twite é um pequeno pássaro passereiro na família de passarinhos Fringillidae. É similar em tamanho e forma a um Linnet, de 13 a 13,5 centímetros de comprimento. Falta o remendo da cabeça vermelha e o peito mostrado pelo Linnet e os redpolls. É manchado marrom com preto acima e um traseiro cor-de-rosa. As partes inferiores são lustrosas para esbranquiçar, manchadas de marrom. A conta cônica é amarela no inverno e cinza no verão. A chamada é um twit distintivo, do qual deriva seu nome, e a música contém trilhos e twitters rápidos. Os Twites podem formar bandos grandes fora da estação de reprodução, às vezes misturados com outros tentilhões nas costas e nas mares salgadas. Eles se alimentam principalmente de sementes. O Twite se reproduz no norte da Europa e na Ásia Central. O pátio sem árvores é favorecido para a reprodução. Ele constrói seu ninho em um arbusto, com 4-7 ovos. É parcialmente residente, mas muitas aves migram mais para o sul, ou se deslocam para as costas. Ele declinou acentuadamente em algumas partes da sua gama, notadamente a Irlanda. A filogenia foi descrita por Antonio Arnaiz-Villena et al.
