As ondas de rádio com freqüências acima da banda UHF caem na faixa de freqüência SHF ou microondas. Os sinais de baixa frequência caem nas bandas VHF ou inferiores. As ondas de rádio UHF se propagam principalmente por linha de visão; eles são bloqueados por colinas e grandes edifícios, embora a transmissão através de paredes de construção seja alta o suficiente para recepção no interior.
