O QUE SIGNIFICA WAVEGUIDE EM INGLÊS
Guia de ondas
Uma guia de ondas é uma estrutura que guia ondas, como ondas eletromagnéticas ou ondas sonoras. Existem diferentes tipos de guias de onda para cada tipo de onda. O significado original e mais comum é um tubo de metal condutor oco usado para transportar ondas de rádio de alta freqüência, especialmente microondas. A geometria de uma guia de ondas reflete sua função. As guias de onda de laje limitam a energia para viajar apenas em uma dimensão, guias de ondas de fibra ou canal para duas dimensões. A freqüência da onda transmitida também determina a forma de uma guia de onda: uma luz de alta freqüência guiando a fibra óptica não orientará as microondas de uma freqüência muito menor. Como regra geral, a largura de uma guia de onda precisa ser da mesma ordem de grandeza que o comprimento de onda da onda guiada. Algumas estruturas que ocorrem naturalmente também podem atuar como guias de ondas. A camada de canal SOFAR no oceano pode guiar o som da música de baleia em distâncias enormes.
