Workfare
Workfare é um modelo alternativo para os sistemas convencionais de previdência social. O termo foi introduzido pela primeira vez pelo líder dos direitos civis James Charles Evers em 1968; no entanto, foi popularizado por Richard Nixon em um discurso televisionado de agosto de 1969. Os sistemas tradicionais de benefícios sociais geralmente são concedidos com base em certas condições, como a busca de trabalho, ou com base em critérios de reunião que posicionariam o destinatário como indisponível para buscar emprego ou ser empregado. Na área de trabalho, os destinatários devem atender a determinados requisitos de participação para continuar a receber seus benefícios sociais. Esses requisitos são muitas vezes uma combinação de atividades que visam melhorar as perspectivas de emprego do destinatário e aqueles designados como contribuintes para a sociedade. Esses programas, agora comuns na Austrália, no Canadá e no Reino Unido, geraram consideráveis debates e controvérsias. Na Holanda workfare é conhecido como Work First, com base no programa Wisconsin Works dos EUA.
