Xining
Xining é a capital da província de Qinghai, no oeste da China, e a maior cidade do planalto tibetano. Tem 2.208.708 habitantes no recenseamento de 2010, que 1.198.304 vivem na área construída, composta por 4 distritos urbanos. A cidade era um centro comercial ao longo do Corredor Hexi da Serra do Norte por mais de 2000 anos e era uma fortaleza da resistência das dinastias Han, Sui, Tang e Song contra ataques nômades do oeste. Embora fosse uma longa parte da província de Gansu, Xining foi adicionado a Qinghai em 1928. Xining mantém sites de importância religiosa para muçulmanos e budistas, incluindo a Mesquita de Dongguan e o Mosteiro de Ta'er. A cidade fica no vale do rio Huangshui, e devido à sua alta altitude, tem um clima semi-árido frio. É conectado por trilho para Lhasa, Tibet e Lanzhou, Gansu.
