Borneol - um produto químico orgânico bicíclico do grupo terpenos, um subgrupo de cânforas, usado como um perfume que lembra a cânfora. É um componente de muitos óleos essenciais e é um repelente de insetos natural. O Borneol pode ser sintetizado pela redução da cânfora pela reação Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley. A mesma redução, mas mais rápida e mais irreversível com boro-hidreto de sódio, dá isoborneol como um produto de reação com controle cinético. O Borneol possui dois enantiómeros, cada um com um número de CAS separado. D - borneol de ocorrência natural é opticamente ativo. Pode ser encontrado em várias espécies de Artemisia e Dipterocarpaceae. Borneol – bicykliczny organiczny związek chemiczny z grupy terpenów, podgrupy kamfanów, stosowany jako środek zapachowy, przypominający kamforę. Występuje jako składnik wielu olejków eterycznych i jest naturalnym środkiem odstraszającym owady. Borneol może być zsyntezowany przez redukcję kamfory w reakcji Meerweina-Ponndorfa-Verleya. Ta sama redukcja, ale zachodząca szybciej i nieodwracalnie z borowodorkiem sodu daje izoborneol jako kinetycznie kontrolowany produkt reakcji. Borneol posiada dwa enancjomery, z których każdy posiada odrębny numer CAS. Naturalnie występujący d--borneol jest optycznie czynny. Można go znaleźć w kilku gatunkach Artemisia i Dipterocarpaceae. Jest stosowany w lecznictwie, do produkcji syntetycznej kamfory oraz perfum.
