Marcapasso cardíaco
Um pacemaker é um dispositivo médico que emite impulsos elétricos transmitidos através de eletrodos que estão em contato com os músculos cardíacos para regular os batimentos cardíacos. O dispositivo eletrônico miniaturizado emite emoção de ritmo regular para um coração com centros fisiológicos incapazes de fornecer a freqüência cardíaca normal. Uma das condições mais comuns que levam à necessidade de usar um pacemaker é chamada de braquicardia, ou seja, a freqüência cardíaca é muito baixa para atender aos requisitos do corpo. Os primeiros marcapassos apareceram e foram implantados em 1958 pela Siemens-Elema na Suécia.
