O som estéreo, ou simplesmente o estéreo, é reproduzido com a ajuda de monitores conectados a dois ou mais canais de som independentes, colocados em diferentes direções e de forma simétrica para dar uma impressão agradável à natureza da audição humana. O estéreo é muitas vezes referido como uma voz anti-mono; o baú monofônico possui um único canal centrado no campo sonoro. O termo "estereofónico" vem do fato de que "στερεός" + "φωνή" em grego foi montado pela Western Electric Company em 1927. Com o uso popular, o estéreo significa que o som é reproduzido simultaneamente com gravação de 2 canais ou com o auxílio de um par de monitores.
