Allometry
Allometria este studiul relației dimensiunii corpului cu forma, anatomia, fiziologia și comportamentul final, descris mai întâi de Otto Snell în 1892, de D'Arcy Thompson în 1917 și de Julian Huxley în 1932. Alometria este un studiu bine cunoscut, în special în analiza formelor statistice pentru evoluțiile sale teoretice, precum și în biologie pentru aplicații practice la ratele de creștere diferențiate ale părților corpului organismului viu. O aplicație este în studiul diferitelor specii de insecte, în care o mică schimbare în dimensiunea corporală globală poate duce la o creștere enormă și disproporționată a dimensiunilor adaosurilor cum ar fi picioarele, antenele sau coarnele. Relația dintre cele două cantități măsurate este adesea exprimată ca o lege de putere: sau într-o formă logaritmică: unde este exponentul scalării legii. Metodele de estimare a acestui exponent din regresiile de tip 2 de utilizare a datelor, cum ar fi regresia axei majore sau regresia axei majore reduse, acestea reprezentând variația ambelor variabile, contrar regresiei celor mai mici pătrate, care nu reflectă varianța de eroare în variabila independentă.
