Un ARN de transfer este o moleculă de adaptor compusă din ARN, de obicei de 73 până la 94 nucleotide în lungime, care servește ca o legătură fizică între secvența nucleotidică a acizilor nucleici și secvența de aminoacizi a proteinelor. ARNm codifică o proteină ca o serie de codoni contiguați, fiecare dintre acestea fiind recunoscută de un tARN special. La celălalt capăt al ARNm este un atașament covalent la aminoacid care corespunde secvenței anticodonale.
