Bitmap
În calcul, un bitmap este o mapare de la un domeniu la altul, adică valori care sunt zero sau una. Se mai numește și un indice bitmap sau bitmap. Bitmap este un tip de organizație de memorie sau format de fișier imagine folosit pentru a stoca imagini digitale. Termenul bitmap vine de la terminologia de programare a calculatorului, adică doar o hartă a biților, o matrice spațială mapată de biți. Acum, împreună cu pixmap, se referă în mod obișnuit la conceptul similar al unei serii de pixeli mapate spațial. Imaginile raster, în general, pot fi denumite fișiere bitmap sau pixmaps, fie ele sintetice sau fotografice, în fișiere sau în memorie.
