Bottrop (pronunția germană: (asculta)) este un oraș din vestul Germaniei centrale, pe canalul Rin-Herne, în Renania de Nord-Westfalia. Situat în zona industrială Ruhr, Bottrop se învecinează cu Essen, Oberhausen, Gladbeck și Dorsten. Orașul a fost un centru de exploatare a cărbunelui și feroviar și conține fabrici care produc derivate din gudron de cărbune, produse chimice, textile și mașini. Bottrop a devenit un centru minier care începe în anii 1860, a fost închiriat ca oraș în 1921 și a bombardat în timpul campaniei petroliere din timpul celui de-al doilea război mondial. În 1975 sa unit cu comunitățile vecine din Gladbeck și Kirchhellen, dar Gladbeck la lăsat în 1976, ducând la Kirchhellen să devină un cartier din Bottrop ca Bottrop-Kirchhellen. 40% din populația orașului este de origine poloneză, mai ales descendenți ai imigranților din secolul al 19-lea.

Bottrop (German pronunciation: ( listen)) is a city in west central Germany, on the Rhine-Herne Canal, in North Rhine-Westphalia. Located in the Ruhr industrial area, Bottrop adjoins Essen, Oberhausen, Gladbeck and Dorsten. The city had been a coal-mining and rail center and contains factories producing coal-tar derivatives, chemicals, textiles, and machinery. Bottrop grew as a mining center beginning in the 1860s, was chartered as a city in 1921, and bombed during the Oil Campaign of World War II. In 1975 it unified with the neighbour communities of Gladbeck and Kirchhellen, but Gladbeck left it in 1976, leading to Kirchhellen becoming a district of Bottrop as Bottrop-Kirchhellen. 40% of the city's population is of Polish descent, mostly descendants of late 19th century immigrants.
