În teoria seturilor, paradoxul lui Cantor derivă din teorema conform căreia nu există nici un număr cardinal cel mai mare, astfel încât colecția de "mărimi infinite" să fie ea însăși infinită. Dificultatea este tratată în teoria seturilor axiomatice, declarând că această colecție nu este un set, ci o clasă adecvată; în teoria setului von Neumann-Bernays-Gödel rezultă din aceasta și axiomul de limitare a dimensiunii că această clasă adecvată trebuie să fie în bijecție cu clasa tuturor seturilor. Astfel, nu numai că există nenumărate infinități, dar această infinitate este mai mare decât oricare dintre infinitele enumerate. Acest paradox este numit pentru Georg Cantor, care este deseori creditat cu prima identificare în 1899. Ca un număr de "paradoxuri", nu este de fapt contradictoriu, ci doar indică o intuiție greșită, în acest caz despre natura infinității și a noțiunii dintr-un set.
