Chirograph
Un chirograf este un document medieval, care a fost scris în dublu, triplu sau foarte ocazional cvadruplicat pe o singură bucată de pergament, unde cuvântul latin "chirographum" a fost scris peste mijloc și apoi tăiat. Prin aceasta, ambele părți la un acord ar putea avea o copie a înregistrării sale scrise și fiecare copie ar putea fi verificată ca autentică prin introducerea și comparația cu cealaltă. Tăierea însăși ar fi adesea făcută pentru a produce o margine ondulată sau zimțată, pentru a reduce posibilitatea de falsificare. Această practică a dat naștere la descrierea documentului "indenture", deoarece aceste margini ar fi considerate a fi "indentate". Cea mai veche porțiune a unui chirograf care trăiește în Anglia datează de la mijlocul secolului al IX-lea.
