Un consorțiu este o asociație a doi sau mai mulți indivizi, companii, organizații sau guverne, cu scopul de a participa la o activitate comună sau de a-și reuni resursele pentru a atinge un obiectiv comun. Consorțiul este un cuvânt latin, adică "parteneriat", "asociație" sau "societate" și derivă din "partenerul consorțiului", el însuși din soarta "împreună" și al soțului, ceea ce înseamnă proprietar de mijloc sau tovarăș.
