Foarte cunoscută sub denumirea comercială de Coramine, ea a fost folosită la mijlocul secolului al XX-lea ca contraacțiune medicală împotriva supradozei tranchilizante, înainte de apariția intubării endotraheale și a expunerii pulmonare cu presiune pozitivă. Se consideră acum că nu are valoare pentru astfel de scopuri și poate fi, de fapt, periculoasă. În terminologia alternativă, este cunoscută sub numele de diethylamida acidului nicotinic, care subliniază în mod semnificativ originile sale de laborator, precum și fonemele numelui său comun.
