Dalit
Dalit este o desemnare pentru un grup de oameni considerați în mod tradițional ca fiind de neatins. Dalitii sunt o populație mixtă, formată din numeroase grupuri sociale din toată India; vorbesc o varietate de limbi și practică o multitudine de religii. Există numeroase nume diferite propuse pentru definirea acestui grup de oameni, inclusiv Panchamas și Asprushya. În 2001, proporția populației dalite a fost de 16,2% din populația totală a Indiei. Populația dalită este distribuită pe scară largă în toate statele și raioanele indiene. În 2001, statul Punjab a avut cea mai mare proporție din populația sa ca Dalit, la aproximativ 29%, iar statul Mizoram a avut cel mai mic procent de aproape zero.
