Burduful lui Darwin
Plantele lui Darwin sunt un grup de aproximativ cincisprezece specii de pasari pasari. Acestea sunt adesea clasificate ca subfamilia Geospizinae sau trib Geospizini. Încă nu este clar care este familia de păsări de care aparțin, dar nu sunt legate de adevărații finchini. Ele au fost colectate pentru prima dată de Charles Darwin pe Insulele Galápagos în timpul celei de-a doua călătorii a Beagle-ului. Toate se găsesc numai pe Insulele Galápagos, cu excepția Cocos finch de pe Insula Cocos. Termenul "capcanele lui Darwin" a fost aplicat pentru prima dată de Percy Lowe în 1936 și popularizat în 1947 de David Lack în cartea lui Darwin's Finches. David Lack și-a bazat analiza pe colecția mare de exemplare muzeale colectate de expediția Galapagos din 1905-06 a Academiei de Științe din California, cărora Lack și-a dedicat cartea din 1947. Păsările variază în mărime de la 10 la 20 cm și cântăresc între 8 și 38 de grame. Cele mai mici sunt cuișoarele, iar cea mai mare este finch-ul vegetarian. Cele mai importante diferențe între specii sunt în mărimea și forma ciocurilor lor, iar ciocurile sunt foarte adaptate la diferite surse de hrană. Păsările sunt toate plictisitoare.
