Curajul olandez
"Curajul olandez" sau "curajul lichid" se referă la curajul obținut din intoxicarea cu alcool. Inițial, expresia "curajul olandez" sa referit la curajul care rezultă din indulgența în ginul olandez, dar "curajul olandez" se poate referi și la gin însuși. În 1650 Francisc Sylvius, un medic olandez, a creat ginul olandez în încercarea de a crea un medicament diuretic. Acest lucru a fost apoi folosit de soldați în Războiul de Treizeci de ani de către trupele englezești și a fost un succes instantaneu pentru proprietățile sale de încălzire crezute asupra corpului în vreme rece și efectele sale de calmare înainte de luptă.
