În termodinamică, entropia este o măsură a numărului de căi specifice în care poate fi aranjat un sistem termodinamic, înțeles în mod obișnuit ca o măsură a tulburării. Conform celei de-a doua lege a termodinamicii, entropia unui sistem izolat nu scade niciodată; astfel de sisteme evoluează în mod spontan către echilibru termodinamic, configurația cu entropie maximă.
