Common toad
Broasca comună, broască europeană sau în părțile anglofone ale Europei, pur și simplu broască, este un amfibiu găsit în toată Europa, în partea de vest a Asiei de Nord și într-o mică parte din Africa de Nord-Vest. Este unul dintre un grup de animale strâns legate care sunt descendente dintr-o linie comună ancestrală de broaște și care formează un complex de specii. Broasca este un animal inconspicuos, deoarece de obicei se afla ascunsa in timpul zilei. Ea devine activă la amurg și petrece noaptea de vânătoare pentru nevertebratele pe care se hrănește. Se mișcă cu o plimbare lentă sau cu salturi scurte și are o piele maro-gri, acoperită cu bulgări asemănătoare negi. Deși, de obicei, un animal solitar, în sezonul de reproducere, un număr mare de broaște se convertesc la anumite iazuri de reproducere, unde bărbații concurează să se îmbine cu femelele. Ouăle sunt așezate în șiruri de gelatină în apă și mai târziu expediate în tadpoles. După câteva luni de creștere și dezvoltare, aceste membrele germină și suferă metamorfoză în mici broaște. Minorii ies din apă și rămân în mare parte terestre pentru tot restul vieții.
