Broasca țestoasă de mare este o broască țestoasă endemică la platoul continental din Australia. Țestoasa de tip flatback aparține superfamiliei Cheloniidae de țestoase marine și este singura specie găsită în genul Natator. Numele său obișnuit provine de la carapacele sale aplatizate în comparație cu alte specii de broască țestoasă. Adulți țestoase de tip flatback au o carapace cu puieți, cu margini răsturnate, care are o lungime de aproximativ 90-95cm. Carapacele sunt de măsline până la culoarea gri, iar plastronul are culoarea crem. Flatbed-urile de tip flatback au carapace gri, iar scuturile sunt marcate distinct în negru. Plastonul și marginile carapacei sunt albe.
