Sticla plutitoare este o foaie de sticlă realizată din sticlă topită plutitoare pe un pat de metal topit, de obicei staniu, deși plumbul și diverse aliaje cu punct de topire scăzut au fost folosite în trecut. Această metodă oferă o grosime uniformă a foii și suprafețe foarte plane. Ferestrele moderne sunt realizate din sticlă plutitoare. Cele mai multe sticle flotate sunt sticlă de sodă-sodă, dar cantitățile relativ minore de borosilicat de specialitate și sticlă de afișare cu ecran plat sunt de asemenea produse utilizând procesul de sticlă flotată. Procesul de sticlă flotantă este, de asemenea, cunoscut sub numele de procesul Pilkington, numit după producătorul britanic de sticlă Pilkington, care a pionierat această tehnică în anii 1950.
